Mississippi

The third largest river in the world, the USA’s mighty Mississippi runs from Lake Itasca in Minnesota and travels for more than 2,300 miles through Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana before reaching the Gulf of Mexico.

Mississippi river cruises offer a tour into the musical history of the USA with stops usually including the likes of Nashville, the king of country music; Memphis, famously home to Elvis’s Graceland; St Louis, the birthplace of many music legends; and New Orleans, where jazz reigns supreme.

Cruise the Mississippi and experience grand columned mansions, historic battlefields, sleepy southern towns, alligator-inhabited swamplands and easy-going creole cities. Feast on hearty ‘soul food’, dance to the beat of Cajun music, fall in love with the mystique of the swamp, visit preserved plantation homes, wander through archaic streets lined with flower-draped balconies, and let yourself go to the slow pace of the Mississippi where you’ll be drawn back to a time of meandering steam boats and clattering horses and carriages.
