inca trail and machu picchu discovery
Departing 20 Mar 19
Enchanting, mysterious and truly unforgettable, a visit to Machu Picchu is a bucket-list adventure of a lifetime. Combine this with a Chilean Fjords cruise and you’ve got a South America experience that will stay with your forever.
Your holiday begins as you fly to Buenos Aires for an overnight stay. Here Latin flavour fills the air, tango is danced in the streets and the steak is some of the best you’ll taste in the world. Following your stay you’ll embark Holland America Line’s stylish Zaandam for your cruise to the end of the world. Charming cities give way to untouched landscapes and thriving wildlife as you sail past snow-capped peaks, spotting ambling penguins and frosty glaciers of blue ice that tumble into the water in some of the world’s most remote areas. Highlights of your sailing include cruising Cape Horn, widely considered the southernmost tip of South America. The rocky peaks are uninhabited, so you'll experience the same views as the earliest explorers discovered centuries ago.
Disembarking in San Antonio, you’ll spend a night in the city before your Peru discovery begins in Cusco, the capital of the Inca Empire, and the gateway to the magnificent Machu Picchu. Highlights of your tour include the ruins and gardens of the most scared building of the Incan empire, Koricancha, and the archaeological sites of Sacsayhuaman and Tambomachay.
Nestled within the Andean foothills and shrouded by swirling clouds and subtropical forests, the sight of Machu Picchu is one to behold and the pinnacle of your Peru stay. Machu Picchu’s mysterious past only adds to its beguiling charm – the city was hidden to the world for centuries until discovered in 1911. Discover this amazing site during a full day tour as you uncover the ruins of temples, palaces and squares surrounded by mountain slopes, peaks and valleys. The following day you’ll tour the beautiful Sacred Valley, exploring the picturesque village of Pisac with its narrow streets and traditional market; and the inhabited city of Ollantaytambo, home to the mystical Sun Temple.
